SOUP SUPPER AND TAIZÉ SERVICE AT FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH: A Soup Supper and Taizé service will be held Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, 716 College Ave. Soup will be served at 5:30 p.m., followed by the Taizé service at 6 p.m. All are welcome and child care will be provided.

Taizé-style worship is designed to bring a sense of calm and deep peace to worshippers. The Rev. Ben Johnston-Krase will use elements of prayer, song and silence during the candlelight service. Music will be provided by pianist, Alejandro Alumbreros and UW-Parkside vocalists. Offerings will be accepted. The church is fully accessible by elevator. OPEN COMMUNION AND BIBLE STUDY AT PLYMOUTH CHURCH: Plymouth Congregational Church, 1143 College Ave., will celebrate “Open Communion” during the 10:30 a.m. worship service Sunday. Open Communion means that everyone is welcome to participate in the Lord’s Supper regardless of denominational affiliation. At Plymouth, the Lord’s Table is always open to anyone who seeks him. Casual dress is always in style. A coffee hour of refreshments will follow worship.

The Rev. Glenn Lawson will lead a special “Prophecy for Today” Bible study at 7 p.m. Wednesdays, April 6 and 20. Participants will examine the Holocaust; Exodus II; what happened on May 14, 1948; the Six-Day War; and what happened on May 25, 1991. Bring your Bible and bring a friend. Refreshments will be served. Attendees are asked to use the North (parking lot) entrance.

RAYMOND COMMUNITY CHURCH HOSTS POTLUCK AND PROGRAM: Raymond Community Church, United Church of Christ, 8217 W. 6 Mile Road, will host a potluck and program at noon on Sunday, following worship.

The program “Charitable Gifting & Estate Planning,” will include a presentation by ReAnn Holmes of Edward Jones and Mark Toth of Schmidlkofer, Toth & Loeb LLC. Door prizes will be given.

MISSION GROUP PLANS DINNER, SILENT AUCTION: A spaghetti dinner and silent auction will be held Sunday at Christ Church, 5109 Washington Ave., to help send youth and adult volunteers on a mission project in Kentucky in June. The dinner will be served from noon to 1 p.m., and the silent auction of items and services will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  The United Methodist church’s services are at 9:15 and 10:45 a.m.

This is the 28th year that Christ Church will work with the Appalachia Service Project, which provides home repair services to make housing safer, warmer and drier. Expenses, including costs of materials and supplies, are paid by the volunteer work crews. Christ Church will send 19 volunteers, making up three work crews, to Kentucky in June.

FIRST EVANGELICAL FREE CHURCH TO BUILD ADDITION: A groundbreaking ceremony will begin at noon Sunday at First Evangelical Free Church, 2401 Ohio St. The pastor is the Rev. John Bodnar. The addition will give the church a wheelchair lift, two handicapped-accessible bathrooms, office space and classrooms.

A dinner will be served in Fellowship Hall after the ceremony. Questions can be directed to Bob Holton, building committee chairman, at (262) 632-1945.

LENTEN SERVICES AT FIRST REFORMED CHURCH: Lenten services will begin at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays through April 13 at First Reformed Church, 7110 Old Spring St. Soup and sandwiches will be served before the services at 5:30 p.m.

ST. LUKE’S EPISCOPAL CHURCH OFFERS LENTEN SERIES: “And the Lord God Planted a Garden: Biblical Gardening Tips for an Easter Harvest,” presented by Seedling Ministries and the Rev. John Hickey, will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays through April 14 in the library of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 614 Main St.

ORIGINAL ROOT ZEN CENTER HOSTS INTRO TO ZEN BUDDHISM: The public is invited to attend the “Intro to Zen” night from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Original Root Zen Center, 600 21st St.

The evening will include a beginner’s introduction to Zen Buddhism, information about the Original Root Zen Center and some basic practices used at the Zen Center to plant seeds of peace, love and compassion in everyday lives. NEW FRIENDS DAY AT ATONEMENT WEST: Atonement West, a second ministry site of Atonement Lutheran Church, invites the public to New Friends Sunday during the 10 a.m. service. Atonement West meets at the Sturtevant Sportsplex, 10116 Stellar Ave., Sturtevant.

UW-PARKSIDE HOSTS FORUM ON “SLAVE CHRISTIANIZATION”:“Slave Christianization: An Unholy Excuse for a Peculiar Institution,” is the title of a University of Wisconsin-Parkside Forum featuring professor David Musa of the Religion Department at Carthage College. Musa will explore the relationships between traditional African religions and American forms of Christianity. The forum begins at noon Monday in Molinaro D-139 at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside campus, 900 Wood Road, Somers. Visitors should park in the Student Center lot where no citations are given during forum hours.

PRESENTATION ON “SEARCH FOR TRUTH” AT ST. RITA CATHOLIC CHURCH: The Rev. Andrew Nelson, (Ph.D. from Marquette University in Religious Studies) will give a presentation “Conscience: A Search for Truth” from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at St. Rita Catholic Church, 4433 Douglas Ave. Nelson will show attendees how the Lenten readings bring to our moral consciences the darkness of evil within and among us, and the Paschal Mystery, Jesus’ final triumph over sin and death.

COMMUNAL PENANCE SERVICES PLANNED THURSDAY: Communal Penance services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Sebastian Parish, 3126 95th St., Sturtevant; and a bilingual service at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1100 Erie St.

LUTHERAN WOMEN’S MISSIONARY LEAGUE HOLDS SPRING RALLY: A Spring Rally will be held April 9 at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 3350 LaSalle St. Breakfast pastries and coffee are served at 8:15 a.m. The rally begins at 9 a.m. Sue Martin will speak on “Mission & Medical Work in Haiti.” An in-gathering for Lutheran High School will be held for a new class, “Skills for Living.” Some of the supplies needed are white thread, zippers, yarn, sewing machine needles and fabric. The public is invited to enjoy the information about aid to Haiti and fellowship with Christian women.

POTLUCK DINNER FOR MILITARY FAMILIES AT ST. MICHAEL’S EPISCOPAL CHURCH: Branches, a military families group, will host a potluck dinner for southeastern Wisconsin families of active-duty military service members from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 4701 Erie St.

Attendees are asked to bring a potluck dish, their own alcohol-free beverage and pictures and stories to share. Children are welcome; however, child care is not available. For more information, call Sandy Clark at (262) 886-8548.

GUEST SPEAKER AT OLYMPIA BROWN UNITARIAN UNIVERSALIST CHURCH

The Rev. Dr. Tony Larsen offers a new look on forgiveness. A guest speaker will describe the Racine Dominican Eco-Justice Center, Olympia Brown Unitarian Universalist Church’s April Offertory Outreach recipient, and Larsen will propose a new perspective to the question, “Do I Have to Forgive?” during the 9 and 11 a.m. services Sunday at the church, 625 College Ave.

ANNUAL COMMUNITY PASSOVER SEDER AT BETH ISRAEL SINAI CONGREGATION: Beth Israel Sinai Congregation, 944 Main St., will celebrate its annual Community Passover Seder at 6 p.m. April 19. Cost to attend is $18 for adults, $15 for senior citizens and $10 for children aged 3-10. Reservation deadline is April 10. LENTEN SERVICES AT ST. JOHN’S LUTHERAN CHURCH: St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1501 Erie St., will continue its special Lenten services at 4 and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Special music will be provided by the St. John’s Lutheran School children in first through third grades, directed by Kimberly Peterson. The fellowship supper will be served by St. John’s Mission Guild between services in the school cafeteria.

GREGG CHAPEL CELEBRATES CHOIR ANNIVERSARY: Gregg Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, 2237 Howe St., will celebrate their choir anniversary during the 3:30 p.m. service Sunday. Special guests are the choir of Wesley Christian Methodist Episcopal Church of Beloit.

RACINE-KENOSHA MINISTERS’ ALLIANCE PLANS LENTEN SERVICES

The Racine/Kenosha Interfaith Ministers’ Alliance will sponsor a series of ecumenical Lenten worship services at 7 p.m. every Wednesday during Lent. Different congregations will host the services each week and worship leadership will rotate among the member congregations.

Services Wednesday will be held at Gregg Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, 2237 Howe St. The host pastor is the Rev. David Green, guest pastor is the Rev. Buddy Vinson and the guest church is Trinity United Baptist Church.

MODEL OF HOLY CITY ON DISPLAY: A 6-by-8-foot scale model of Jerusalem as it may have looked in 33 A.D. is open from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday at Ye Olde Cheese Box, 3315 Washington Ave.

A one-hour historical presentation is available for groups of 10-15 for $3 per person by appointment only. For more information or to make an appointment for the presentation, call (262) 632-6071. The display is sponsored by Gethsemane Lutheran Church. Offerings will be accepted with proceeds going to the Gethsemane Outreach Ministry.

PROGRAM OFFERED AT SIENA CENTER: “To Know We Have Enough is To Be Rich” will be held April 8-10, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Siena Center, 5635 Erie St. Participants will reflect on what brings deep joy, inner peace, and spiritual fulfillment.
